100 monuments under Clean India Campaign

Clean India Campaign launched at Qutab Minar, Delhi, in June 2012 by the Tourism Ministry is an attempt to improve Indian heritage sites and to attract more tourists. About 100 heritage monuments are likely to be covered under the project of Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC).

The project involves garbage clearance, drinking water facilities, maintenance of parking lots and toilets and proper signage at the heritage complex. It also includes tourist help desks and volunteers for good management among tourists. There are number of facilities available for physically challenged person.

ITDC has been networking with various stakeholders including Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), Delhi Jal Board (DJB), Delhi Development Authority (DDA), Traffic Department and the Shop Owners and Trade Association around the Qutab Complex to make the project a success. The NGO Prayas was also roped in as a partner in this project.

Delhi Government has also planned to advertise the campaign message on train tickets. Radio jingles and posters were also released. The project has been launched with the plan to attract six million more foreign tourists. Currently, foreign tourist rate is 5.7 million in a year.
