34,000 kg of Plastic Repurposed into a Sustainable Win

Repurposing Plastic Waste: Celebrating International Plastic Bag Free Day with Purpose

In a shining example of student-led innovation and community collaboration, the Dr. O.P. Bhalla Foundation has successfully recycled 34,000 kilograms of plastic waste into benches, t-shirts, and dustbins — proving that purposeful action can indeed turn waste into worth.

Here’s what the initiative has accomplished:

  • 24,000 kgs of plastic were transformed into 12 benches, now installed across Manav Rachna campuses and the Government Senior Secondary School, Bhankhri.
  • 10,000 kgs of plastic were repurposed into 100+ t-shirts and 4 dustbins, providing income support to five women from economically weaker sections.
  • An additional ₹12,000 raised through campus stalls has been reinvested into the next phase of the project, while 30 t-shirts were gifted to children at the Government Boys Hostel, NIT Faridabad.

As we mark this important day, Clean India Journal reaffirms its commitment to showcasing such inspiring stories — where environmental action meets real-world impact.
