To mark the 150th year of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth, Axis Bank has announced its support for Bhopal Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) efforts to make Bhopal a clean and green city, which will help it retain its title of the cleanest state capital in the country. As a part of its CSR initiative, the bank will provide 85 electric bikes to the BMC for conducting and monitoring solid waste management operations smoothly and more efficiently.

The Bank will deploy one Hero Electric NYXHS500 model bike in each of the 85 BMC wards. These bikes will be used by BMC officers and health officers to efficiently navigate through the city roads and by-lanes, especially the more densely populated areas. The environmentfriendly electric bikes will also bring down operating costs of SWM work by reducing dependence on petrol/ diesel. The project will be monitored by Additional Commissioners of the BMC, who will supervise the ‘Darogas’ and AHOs responsible for the cleanliness and SWM management of the city of 20 lakh citizens.

In addition to this, the Bank recently provided 200 Android POS Machines to the BMC, to be used for collecting spot fines against littering or other solid waste management related breaches.
