BMC earns carbon credits

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will receive 20 crore in lieu of carbon credit from the Asian Development Bank. The credit comes from the closed Gorai dumping ground, the first garbage dump in the country to earn ‘carbon credits’. As the garbage decomposes, it will emit huge amounts of methane gas by next year. The BMC has put vents in the ground to tap the gas and to generate electricity.
