BMC to clean Mumbai beaches

To ensure that Mumbai remains a “Clean and Green City”, the BMC has now drawn up action plans to preserve the pristine surroundings of different sea beaches lying idly along the shores of Arabian Sea primary among them being Chowpatti, Juhu Beach, Madh Island, Marvé Beach, Gorai Beach and Aksa Beach.

The BMC, as part of its vigorous drive to clean the beaches, have earmarked Rs. 50 lakhs to be spent in every six months for cleaning and maintaining the beaches in the island city. The BMC has appointed private sector companies to clean the beaches by awarding tenders.

Besides, 1,000-strong labourers have been posted by BMC to collect the garbage and the corporators have been asked to involve the local people to voluntarily come forward to clean the beaches.

Measures like proper disposal of garbage, creating awareness about waste management and beach cleansing drives have also been taken up by the BMC on priority basis to maintain the pristine glory of the beaches in Mumbai.
