Kam-Avida has tied up with German company Rico, manufacturers of special cameras for studying sewer lines. It has introduced a new system ‘Conditional Assessment Services’ to detect cracks or breaks in the sewer pipelines through a special camera. The equipment is a waterproof camera attached with multiple cable wires, customised to reach inside the sewer pipes or difficult spots in the manhole to capture cracks or breaks.
“The pictures captured can be transferred on to the computer with special software, which indicates the exact location of the problem with the exact size,” said Marcus Hans, Sales Manager of Rico. The requisite information of the internal conditions of the sewer pipeline can be taken in the form of print-outs with the help of tapes from video-recording.
This is the first of its kind technology introduced in India and is marketed by Kam-Avida. “There is already a great demand for this equipment from various municipal corporations. The Kolkata Municipal Corporation is the first municipality in India to avail this technique. Another tender from BMC for an area of 280km is already in the pipeline,” revealed M. Krishnan, MD, Kam-Avida.
“The Indian sewer system is complex and identifying the cracks is not easy. After desilting the sewer line, the camera scans the pipelines for cracks. Once the exact location to be addressed is identified it makes repair work easier,”said Krishnan.
