Carpet Cleaning Survey

This step is the most important step in the carpet cleaning process. It allows us to gain the information required to thoroughly and professionally clean a carpet as we examine the construction, fibre-type, sub-floor, underlay and fitting.

All these factors combine to determine the best method for cleaning a carpet and the correct chemicals to get the best results possible. Aside from the intricacies of cleaning carpets, we should also look at each particular stain or spot to ensure that the appropriate removal technique and solution are applied. We have access to an array of specialist cleaning solutions and need to know exactly which one to employ.

Carpet Cleaning Method
Dry Soil Removal

We commence our cleaning process by removing the vast majority of sand, dust and dry soil using an industrial vacuum cleaner. In addition to removing much of the dirt, this process lifts many of the fibres to allow access to the base of the carpet in the following steps. We achieve this by covering the entire floor area at least four times in perpendicular directions. Finally we work around the edges of the carpet with a hand tool to complete the dry soil extraction step.

Spots and Stains

We pre-treat and work on all the areas of the stain with appropriate chemical agents to remove a particular stain. These include, enzymes, carefully selected solvents, oxidising agents, reducing agents and a variety of suitable detergents. Any residue left in treating a particular stain will then be removed during the cleaning process of the entire area.

Pre-spray and Agitation

We move on to treat the entire floor area with appropriate cleaning agent suitable for that carpet type. This penetrates to the base of the construction and removes any grease or oils adhered to the carpet fibres. At the same time, any remaining soil and dust is transferred to the cleaning solution ready for extraction in the following steps.

The cleaning solution is carefully worked into the carpet fibres ensuring the most amount of dirt possible is released and subsequently removed. We can achieve this using a specially designed carpet brush, by working the solution from four different directions to further lift the carpet pile.

Extraction

The floor area is then extracted with a powerful hot water extraction machine. This works by first injecting an antibacterial deodoriser into the carpet at high pressure. This dislodges any remaining soil from the base of the construction while killing any germs that reside on the fibres. The injection step is followed by extraction of the dirty solution using a high vacuum to leave the carpet as dry as possible and odour free.

The machines we deploy are dedicated machines with twin vacuum motors to remove the vast majority of water and ensure minimal drying times of only a few hours. A very small amount of residue is left on the surface of the fibre to ensure an enduring cleanliness of your carpet. After extracting the main floor area, we deploy a specially designed hand tool to extract the edges of the carpet. This tool allows us to remove dirt that is embedded in the carpet right next to the skirting board and in areas difficult to reach with standard equipment.

Grooming and Finishes

After cleaning the carpet, we continue our work by grooming the face of the fibre to ensure the best visual finish possible.

We then polish all of the skirting boards surrounding the carpet that have been cleaned. This leaves the entire floor area looking fresh and restored, but most importantly clean!

Important Note

Shampooing and extraction should be done during the warm season. In severe cases where deep cleaning of heavily soiled areas cannot be delayed and shampooing and extraction is necessary, the following steps must be taken:

  • Ensure proper procedures are followed to prevent over-saturation.
  • Use floor fans and dehumidifiers. Typically, the combined use of air movement to promote evaporation and dehumidifiers to initiate moisture removal will effectively dry out wet areas.
  • Empty dehumidifier trays as needed.
  • Keep windows and outside doors closed at all times during summer operations.
  • During unoccupied hours, turn exhaust fans off and close outside air dampers.
  • Keep lights on.
  • Keep blinds open.
  • Keep windows and doors closed

As a general note, carpets must be completely dry within 24 hours to ensure that mold growth does not occur.
