Central Railway adopts Mechanised Cleaning

In a bid to improve and maintain the cleaning standards and amenities, the Central Railway plans to adopt mechanised cleaning for the rakes at the Bhusawal and Manmad coaching depots in Maharashtra. Speaking to CIJ, Parivesh Sahu, Sr Divisional Mechanical Engineer of Central Railway said, “Generally the long-route trains that come to Manmad or Bhusawal depot are covered in stubborn dirt and grime after a three-four day journey. Currently, the coaches/rakes are cleaned manually or with a pressure jet using hose.”

This year Central Railway has planned to outsource it to professional service contractors for maintaining rakes/coaches, coaching depot and the complex (where the rakes are maintained) for a five-year period. The coaches would be cleaned using state-of-the-art equipment like high-pressure jets, scrubbers and steam-cleaners. “This is an attempt to increase the passenger satisfaction to a higher degree. The accumulated waste from coaches will be collected and disposed off at a designated place,” he added.
