Checks on burning garbage

The Chennai forest department plans to deploy a check post, watch towers and an office close to the Pallikaranai marshland after innumerable complaints were lodged by residents on burning garbage in the marsh.

A bio-diversity research organisation monitoring the marsh for over a decade, found that the Typha grass grown in the marsh were found to be scorched due to the burning of garbage. Besides, garbage burning was posing threat to various species of birds flocking the marshland.
