Clean-up Drive

Tonnes of garbage were recently removed in Chennai city as part of a massive cleaning drive announced by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. During the cleanliness drive, 1884 metric tonnes of garbage were removed from the metropolis and dumped at the suburban Kodungaiyur and Perungudi yards. The civic authorities also removed 6,471.5 metric tonnes of construction debris. Conservancy workers and road workers were pressed into service to remove the garbage. In addition, the civic body also undertook a massive fogging operation for mosquito menace.
