Cleaning contractors sought for DWUP

Indian Rare Earths Limited, a Government of India Undertaking, at Matikhalo, Orissa, is planning to outsource dewatering and cleaning of 256 manhole compartments at its Dredge and Wet Upgradation Plant (DWUP).

J N Sadangi, DGM (Mining), Indian Rare Earths Limited (IREL), Matikhalo, Orissa told Clean India Journal, “The job comes under Opencast mining, in which regular cleaning of water and sand of at least three compartments has to be done on a daily basis by manual means. DWUP unit is a floating unit mounted on the pontoon. A pontoon is a flotation device with buoyancy sufficient to float itself as well as a heavy load.” As per the contract, all the manhole compartments are to be cleaned once in three months. Contractor has to deploy two persons to clean four compartments in a day. There is a mandated provision of 512 man-days for a contract period of 12 months.

The contractor will have to provide the required PPEs like safety helmet, safety shoes, safety gloves and goggles as specified under the Mines Act, 1952, to the workers. The workers should know swimming, as DWUP is a floating unit.
