Community Initiatives

Residents in Jayamahal Extension, Bangalore, are now doing janitorial work to keep the roads and footpaths neat and clean. Working as the citizens’ group, Community Initiative Jayamahal Area (CIJMA), these residents have planted 50 avenue tree saplings and ensured a scientific survey.

People in large numbers have volunteered for the cleaning and maintenance of the extension. Intensive cleaning of the roads is being done with pourakarmikase, and so far 26 roads in the area have been cleaned.

The initiative began with 100 residents, including children who gathered last year in a clean-up drive. The necessary fund was raised by contributing `500 from each family. Considering the difference, BBMP authorities sooner or later will have to take the responsibility and match the present cleaning standards made by citizens.
