Contaminated water in railway stations

According to a report prepared by the Medical Department of Railways, 59% and 94% of station-tap water samples collected from the Moradabad and Ambala divisions respectively were found to be having high degree of Coliform Bacteria. The water supplied in a large number of stations falling under the jurisdiction of Northern Railways is contaminated. Even the railway colonies located in different cities in Northern Railways also get the same contaminated tap water. What is most alarming for the passengers is that the samples of tap water of almost all railway stations collected from the Lucknow Division were found to be carrying dangerous microbiological elements and toxic elements. The taps in over 700 railway stations falling in the Northern Division use contaminated water.
