Drone to Monitor Landfills

UK’s Environment Agency (EA) and the University of Manchester are experimenting with a drone to monitor the gaseous emissions from 200 landfill sites across Britain. The agency will use a drone fitted with gas sensors to monitor the gases produced by dumped waste. In UK, about 21 million tonnes of greenhouse emission is released by the food waste itself annually, according to latest data.

These emissions from decomposing materials may cause health issues in long term, and EA is conducting this experiment to devise a solution for this problem. The drone will begin to fly over Pilsworth landfill site that has been closed by the operator.
