The last six months saw India going through a stormy phase with demonetization and the ‘cleaning act’ has brought in a kind of order and transparency even in the Cleaning Industry, which has a sizable representation in the unorganised sector. Opening of bank accounts, more online payments and need to comply with PF/ ESIC regulations are bringing about transparency and better standing for unskilled workers.

In this emerging positive scenario, will implementation of GST add benefits? This issue of Clean India Journal probes into the pros and cons. The Industry feels that GST will give a boost to the manufacturing companies. Tax credits, optimised logistics and the simple tax structure would definitely yield results. However, to reach there a lot of homework needs to be done.

It was in 2006 that we brought together a few women achievers in the Indian Cleaning Industry. Today, we have a number of very accomplished women entrepreneurs both as service providers and product providers. The common thread our correspondent Vijayalakshmi Sridhar discovered has been one made of passion, hard work, sincerity and above all the natural instinct to be able to manage people.

The issue is also throwing light on areas like of rainwater harvesting, HAI, hospital laundry and most importantly the need for close collaboration between Executive Housekeepers in hotels with the purchase departments, especially when it comes to linen management.

The Clean India Technology Week, January 2018 in Mumbai, is getting bigger with individual expos bringing in more exhibitors. One segment which is consolidating well is commercial laundry. As a run-up to the LaundrexNet at CTW, Clean India Journal, along with the Laundry and Dry-Cleaning Association is organising multiple interactive sessions in different cities. And not to forget the big event in September: the second International Housekeepers Summit in Mumbai!
