Though we did not see any radical announcement in the recently laid out budget, it is sure aimed at taking India into the future. While the budget gives a boost to infrastructure & connectivity, it also encourages start-ups and entrepreneurship, a move that can bring in innovation and more employment. We already see the mushrooming of start-ups in different sectors and the Cleaning Industry, given its nature of business, sure offers wide scope for new companies to come in.

One example of a success story in cleaning industry belongs to Debtosh Chatterjee who started Chatterjee Cleaning Arts Services in Kolkata way back in 1992 when jobs were scarce and opportunities few and far apart. The country had already created a kind of demand for facility maintenance. Over the years, saddled with problems in getting quality products, Chatterjee established Mrinmoyee Supply Pvt. Ltd, a full-fledged Make in India manufacturing facility of cleaning tools. Read his story of growth in this issue of Clean India Journal.

This issue also features the effort taken by Schevaran Laboratories to introduce systematic education and training in the Facility Management Sector. The company has collaborated with Cleanfix – the Swiss precise cleaning equipment manufacturing company and Filmop – a leading producer of cleaning tools, to establish the Academy of Cleaning Excellence, India’s first educational institute for training FM professionals. Being associated with this initiative is Ramaiah University.

Coming to the focus story this month, there is an effort to highlight the importance of maintaining indoor air quality through proper cleaning procedures. In spite of the data available for the need to keep the HVAC system cleaned up or to avoid toxic cleaning materials especially inside healthcare centres, when it comes to practice, the essential checklists are often not followed.

And this issue gives you more such informative features…
