Indian Railways Restart Mechanised BOOT Laundry Model
“With new technologies and processes, like automatic detection of stains & creases
during Ironing, automated packing in eco-friendly bio-degradable material & new types
of enzyme-based detergents will not only improve quality, but also give a feel-good
factor to the end-users (passengers),” Yashodhar Vallala, President, Indian Railways
BOOT Laundry Owners’ Association told Clean India Journal following the decision of
the Indian Railways.
he growing demand of bedroll
and other linen items due to
increase in new trains and
introduction of LHB coaches,
TRailway Board vide its letter
dated 9th July 2024 has advised all Railway
Zones to set up new Mechanised Laundries
on BOOT Model.
“The move by Railways to re-introduce
new Mechanised BOOT Laundries coupled
with introduction of technologies and
processes in the proposed new BOOT
Laundries will be a welcome initiative
considering the heightened passenger
awareness about quality of on-board train
services including clean bedroll linen.
This initiative will also save huge capital
expenditure for Railways if they have had
to invest in their own Mechanised laundries,
which otherwise can be used for safety and
other rolling stock requirements…”
