Battling for years together to solve the problem of Solid Waste Management (SWM), the Karnataka Government has appointed Darpan Jain as the first SMW Special Commissioner with the task of solving the garbage disposal projects for the Bangalore civic body. This is the first such post created for a municipality in India.
Pertaining to garbage clearance and construction of waste disposal units and with December 1, 2014 as the deadline to stop dumping of garbage at Mandur landfill, the civic body does not have enough time to waste to solve the penchant problem of garbage.
