FSSAI to issue hygiene ratings to restaurants

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has ordered that restaurants and hotels will soon have to display hygiene ratings on their doors. It will also train people to check compliance to hygiene standards. This measure is expected to result in an improvement in the quality of food served. The rating system will also provide incentives to restaurant owners to improve their standards.

It will also result in a filtering out of eating joints and restaurants that may pose health risks to consumers.
