GHMC to add sweeping machines

Apart from complaints about potholes and craters, the growing problem of dust has led Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to acquire new sweeping machines on BOO basis. The civic body is planning to add five sweeping machines to reinforce its sanitation programme.

According to the GHMC officials, tenders have been floated inviting contractors to operate their vehicles and get paid for the services on hourly basis. Presently, the civic body is paying `1,100 per hour to operators for big sweeping machines and `690 for smaller machines that include fuel and maintenance costs. In the meantime, the existing fleet of one big and six small sweeping machines have been sent for refurbishment that will take around two months.
