GHMC to implement rainwater harvesting

To make potable water available to households, 1,500 rainwater harvesting structures are likely to be set up in each of the five zones of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).  The Zonal Commissioners are advised to expedite the bidding process, which will not only involve non-governmental organisations but also Residential Welfare Associations so that similar structures could be taken up in the private properties too.

Educational institutions having large swathes of land and even the perennial water stagnation points dotting several roads in the city are also being considered for building water harvesting units. A single rainwater harvesting structure will entail a cost of 10,000.
