GPS in vehicles carting garbage

A vehicle tracking system for carting garbage is on the cards

An MOU has been signed between Ministry of Urban development and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited which will provide the hardware and software for implementing the system. The service charge per vehicle per month will be Rs. 1,500.

Dilip gawade, the Joint Comissioner of the Pimpri Chinchawad Muncipal Corporation said, All garbage transporting vehicles will be fitted with GPS for tracking. They will also have real time SMS delivery for vehicle breakdown and maintenance. There will also be a citizen complaint management mechanism

Jt. Commissioner Dilip Gawde, said, “There are a total of 440 big vehicles of PCMC involved in garbage transportation. If we use the BSNL’s VTS, then we will have to pay service charges of Rs. 63 lakh per month. PCMC may either consider using the system for only 50 vehicles used to transport garbage from transfer stations to the Moshi garbage depot or implementing it on pilot basis in one of the six zones.”
