Green award to city school

Chennai based East Coast Christian Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Neelankarai has won the Green Schools of India Award, 2011, for its active environmental conservation activities. The school has been a model of environmental management with each classroom segregating bio-degradable and non-bio-degradable waste. It encourages recycling of paper and other material for making scientific toys and models. Every week, the school awards star ratings to each classroom on the basis of solid waste segregation, energy saving (switching off lights and fans) and eco friendly attitude. It also encourages students to use eco friendly dress materials.
