Mumbai city’s oldest and largest landfill site is heading for a change of image. The BMC is planning to convert a part of the 127 hectares garbage dump into a green belt which will include a lawn and a walking track, gas wells to trap methane to generate electricity and two processing units to process 1,000 metric tonnes of refuse daily. The project is targeted at a cost of 5,500 crores and is expected to be completed by 2033.
