The golden temple in Vellore recently received ‘Green temple award’ from Exnora International for adopting environment-friendly procedures in all spheres of its activities. The temple generates two tonnes of solid waste materials daily (1.5 tonne of compostable waste and 0.5 tonne of recyclable waste) and processes the organic waste into vermi compost manures and recyclable waste into 33 different varieties of products including plastic materials, glass, metals and paper. It also uses bio-gas to prepare prasadam with the help of an exclusive plant with a capacity to produce 50kg of bio-gas.
