Gujarat to convert plastic waste into crude oil

While global crude oil reserves is going Kaput, to curb the oil crisis in future, Gujarat is set to be the first state to turn its plastic waste into crude oil. Surat Municipal Corporation recently proposed a project on PPP model on 20-year term to convert plastic waste generated in the city into crude oil and pellets using the pyrolysis technology. Made from organic molecules, plastic through a chain of chemical processes that combine molecules into large chain molecules, can be successfully converted into crude oil. Certain additives can be added to give more particulate characteristics. The plastic garbage, lying in landfills is a health hazard, but being a by-product of fossil fuel or natural gas, it is actually a source of energy. In fact, plastic has a higher energy level than that of coal.
