Gurgaon waste segregation to be more organised

Steps are being implemented by the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon to ensure waste segregation takes place

The Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) inspected 47 vehicles deployed for door-to-door collection of garbage by the waste management concessionaire Ecogreen.  It will ensure that all its garbage vehicles have separate compartments to collect and transport segregated waste.

Except for a few, most of the vehicles that were inspected had compartments which did not have space for transporting domestic hazardous waste.  The waste workers were updated on the importance of segregation and were told to make announcements via audio messaging to explain the importance of wet and dry waste segregation to the public.

MCG officials also advised their drivers not to engage in any conflict with those who didn’t see the need for waste segregation. Going a step further, the drivers and waste pickers were instructed to convince residents in an understanding and calm manner in order to avoid any untoward confrontation.

As segregation at source has now become mandatory, Ecogreen officials plan to increase the fleet of vehicles for waste collection.  MCG began collecting segregated waste from early November of this year.
