Hotels cannot run without STP in J&K

Taking a dig on the Pollution Control Board (PCB), the Jammu and Kashmir High Court has sought explanations from PCB that how it has allowed operations of hotels without STPs or non-functional STPs in Gulmarg? The court also said that it would issue contempt notice to the PCB if hotels did not comply anti-pollution control measures immediately.

At least eight out of 14 hotels lack functional STPs while with other six have non-functional STPs. The court also directed that capacity of each STP to cater the solid waste and run off from the hotel should also be assessed and a report in this regard be placed before the Court.

In its status report the PCB said out of 35 hotels falling under category A, STPs have been installed in 11 hotels. It said in five hotels STPs are functional while in six hotels STPs are non-functional or are under installation.
