Hygiene in train biotoilets

A parliament panel has asked railways to take measures to improve the hygiene of lavatories as there are always trepidations over choking and foul smell in the bio-toilets. According to the reports, Railway Convention Committee (RCC) has sought mechanism for effective use and management of the bacteria meant to be used in the bio-toilets which are replacing the toilets in a phased manner.

“The ministry has said it was taking several measures including mandatory provision of dustbins in each coach lavatory, improvement in flushing system, ventilation and availability of mugs in all coach lavatories,” said Bhartruhari Mahtab, BJP lawmaker.
