Many ministries have already responded to his call. The Housing and Urban Affairs ministry has banned the use of plastic bottles, and replaced plastic files with paper files. The Road Transport ministry has ordered a stop to the use of singleuse plastics with immediate effect.
Amazon India said replace bubble wrap and plastic air pillows with paper padding by June 2020, while Flipkart plans to eliminate singleuse plastic in packaging by March 2021.
35 airports operated by the Airports Authority of India were recently declared plastic-free. Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport too has decided to do away with plastic usage by the end of 2019. It has started the process of not using plastic grocery bags, food packaging, bottles, straws, containers, cups and cutlery.
