India’s first liquid detergent pod maker

Kanak Pattali of Biowash Laboratories (P) Ltd showcases the innovation introduced for the laundry segment.

Give us an overview of your products.

Biowash liquid detergent pods are water soluble PVA Pods. This super concentrated detergent liquid is packed in poly vinyl alcohol (PVA) film which will dissolve in water immediately. These advanced products are being used in the US, Europe and China for two years. There are only a few factories in the world.

Biowash pods are manufactured by Biowash Laboratories (P) Limited, Mumbai, India. This factory is the first factory in India and the Middle-eastern countries.

What are the innovations you have introduced?

The current method to wash clothes started from cake, then moved into powder and the latest is detergent liquid. The Biowash Pod is an advanced system to wash clothes.

In India, we have just started marketing it and it may take two years to create awareness among consumers. A few international brands have also started marketing such products through online platforms, but they are importing from China and other countries.

In what ways are your products more advanced and advantageous than others in the market?

For comparison, there is no parallel product available in the market. Detergent pods cannot compare with detergent cake, powder or liquid. The latter contain hard cleaning chemicals which damage the colour of clothes as well as affect their life.

Biowash pods work with biological enzymes. There are no hard surfactants. Biowash pods contain softener, brighter and long lasting fragrance.

What makes your products eco-friendly/sustainable?

Biowash pods contain a team of enzymes for removing various stains biologically. It never damage your clothes or its colour.

What have been the highlights of your company’s journey so far?

We have been manufacturing home care/cleaning products for 30 years. We introduced 100+ premium products for Indian and overseas markets. This product is our new baby and took two years to develop from R&D to final production.

What positive feedback have you got from your clients?

Our Biowash pods were ranked No 1 by 500+ families around the world after usage.

What’s your outlook on the laundry business in India?

Our laundry chemicals project is complicated as machines are made to order and their working is very difficult. Running the machine includes a combination of mechanical, electrical, electronic and pneumatic functions, with lots of troubleshooting. Packing PVA film is not available in India and needs to be imported. Also, to develop the formula needs a lot of R&D. That is the reason we are the first manufacturers of this product in India. However, predicted sales in India are ₹4000 crores per year and we hope it will happen within a span of five years.
