According to the most recent data from the Central Government’s annual cleanliness survey, Indore was awarded India’s cleanest city for the sixth year in a row, with Surat and Navi Mumbai coming in second and third respectively
Tripura ranks first among states with fewer than 100 urban local bodies, according to the survey results. According to PTI, Maharashtra’s Panchgani was ranked first among cities with a population of less than one lakh, followed by Chhattisgarh’s Patan (NP) and Maharashtra’s Karhad.
At the Surat Smart City Conference in April 2022, Indore Smart City Development Limited (ISCDL) received six awards. As part of the 100 Smart Cities initiatives, it shared the best city award with Surat for their overall accomplishments in categories such as, culture, sanity, social aspects, urban mobility, urban environment and water.
With a population of over one lakh people, Haridwar was assigned the cleanest Ganga town, followed by Varanasi and Rishikesh. Bijnor was the most scarcely inhabited of the Ganga towns with fewer than one lakh residents, followed by Kannauj and Garhmukhteshwar. As per the survey, the cleanest Cantonment Board in the country is in Deolali, Maharashtra.
The seventh Swachh Survekshan was held to assess the progress of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) and rank Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) based on various cleanliness and sanitation parameters. The Survekshan survey has expanded from 73 cities in 2016 to 4,354 cities this year.
On October 1, 2022, President Droupadi Murmu presented the awards to the winners at an event attended by Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and others. Madhya Pradesh came first in the category of best performing states in the ‘Swachh Survekshan Awards 2022,’ followed by Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra.
