Insurance for rag-pickers

Recognising the contribution of more than 6000 rag-pickers who collect 300-350 tonnes of dry waste from the city daily, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has proposed a financial aid for a health and accident insurance scheme for them. There is always a possibility of rag-pickers developing health problems because of their work environment. The New India Insurance Company has proposed a policy for them and the PMC will contribute र516,260 for the same.
