Micro composting yard in Trichi

The Trichy municipality has laid a successful step to decentralize the garbage that has been mounting in the Ariyamangalam ward for years. A micro composting yard is going to be set up in Pookkollai, a village near Ariyamangalam. So far, the 430 tonnes of garbage collected garbage collected from different parts of the city, fish markets, regional vegetable markets, Gandhi Market, Central Bus Stand and Chathiram Bus Stand were dumped in the Ariyamangalam yard. The single yard, spread over 40 acres has been taking in 12 lakh tonnes on a daily basis. It was not segregated too. Eventually, the huge mountain of garbage started releasing methane. The garbage that comes to Pookkollai micro compost yard would be segregated, with the bio-degradable waste directed for composting and the non-bio degradable waste such as plastic used for laying roads.
