Mission clean-up gone wrong

The holiday season is over. And along most of Goa’s 105km long coastline, the filthy leftovers of yet another tourist season lie buried in sandy corners or dumped in the fields and open spaces of nearby villages. Beach cleaning, which costs the exchequer several lakhs of rupees a year, is far from satisfactory. The contracts with the waste management contractors do not specify any scientific way of disposing garbage.
