Mumbai locals to get better cleaning facilities

Commuting in the future may get smoother & cleaner. While air-conditioned local trains in Mumbai are expected to start running by the end of the year, pilot projects have been started at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) and Mumbai Central Terminus in order to maintain the cleanliness on par with that of five star hotels. Another 48 stations are to adopt the same project where each station will be provided between five to 15 crores for housekeeping.

Meetings were held with 12 hospitality management firms – Eureka Forbes, Hindustan Lever, Knight Frank, Cushman and Wakefield, Sanjay Maintenance Services, BVG, Crystal, A to Zee, Checkmate services etc. Services and equipment that are used normally in a five star hotel will be incorporated to maintain the stations and make them more spacious, in case the firms fail to meet the parameters, the railways will step in and take the project up.
