‘Need for building collaborations for water conservation’

Considering the global challenge of depleting sources of water, many corporate houses have taken up the cause of conserving this resource. Speaking on the sidelines of a daylong conference on Corporate Water Stewardship and the Post 2015 Development Agenda: Drawing from the India experience organized on March 5, 2013 at Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), Emilio R Tenuta, Vice President, Corporate Sustainability, Ecolab told Clean India Journal, “CEO Water Mandate is a subset of UN Global Compact’s CEO Water Mandate which focuses on public and private collaboration to support and promote initiatives to mitigate water risk and support sustainable water management. India is a developing economy and water is a resource which finds usage not only in agriculture but also in the industries. Greater public and government involvement is therefore required not to exploit the resource.”

The CEO Water Mandate which seeks to build an international movement of committed companies covers six elements – Direct Operations, Supply Chain and Watershed Management, Collective Action, Public Policy, Community Engagement and Transparency.
