The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has created a web based ‘waste carrier truck management solution’ system on its official website (pcmcindia.gov.in) which helps identify if garbage from bins in the township has been lifted by the trucks. With this, citizens as well as the civic authorities will be able to monitor all the 1,700 garbage bins located in the twin township.
The system monitor indicates a red colour if the garbage bin is not cleared / “unserved” in the last 24 hours and a green colour if the bin is “served”. The status of the bins around the city is updated every five minutes. PCMC’s medical and health department chief has said that the trial runs of the system are being conducted at present and will soon be operational.
The system works on GPS (geographical positioning system) devices installed for all the 28 compactors which lift garbage everyday. The PCMC’s system for monitoring garbage trucks comes after a similar system that has been put in place foronitoring potholes on any road in the twin township.
