No Stink Over Flushing

City officials in Taipei in south Taiwan have begun training potty users to flush toilet paper down the toilet instead of throwing it in the trash, aiming to reduce 340 tons of stinky waste generated daily, according to Reuters news service.

One reason for the recent movement to flush is that Taiwan’s plumbing can now handle toilet paper without clogging the pipes, a break from the past, said Tainan city spokespeople at a news conference earlier this week.

Sticking non-recyclable toilet paper in the trash also costs the city T$4,600 (US$151) per ton, or T$600 million per year.
