Non-working toilets

There is many a slip between the cup and the lip when it comes to government policies and their execution. But Andhra Pradesh beats every sincere step of the government hollow when it comes to the proper use of toilets. A recent study has revealed that 60% households in the rural and 25% in the urban areas of Andhra Pradesh still do not have a toilet. Not just that. In case the toilets are built, they are left unused. In fact, 70% of the 42 lakh individual toilets built in the state in the last decade are lying unused. That makes Andhra Pradesh the topmost state in the country to have the lowest number of working toilets. Many households use the toilets to store grains, as kitchens or as dumping areas. According to sanitary experts, 80% of all diseases are due to poor sanitation.
