NDMC has installed a purpose-built small-scale plant at Buddha Jayanti Park in Delhi to convert organic waste into pellets or fuel. The pellets are to be used to generate power. The NDMC is soon going to install similar smaller plants at Talkatora Garden, Lodhi Garden, Purana Qila Nursery and Nehru Park. The major parks in New Delhi generate massive quantum of organic waste per day. The installation of such pellet-making plants is a part of sanitation drive of NMDC.
According to the NMDC sources, tenders will be invited to process organic waste into fuel in these parks. The thrust of the civic body now is more on converting organic waste of parks into pellets than composting them as part of its cleanliness drive and also to generate green energy. Aimed at meeting power needs of people, such smaller organic plants in parks require only 1,000sqm plots and can generate 40MW of power per day.
