Power from waterless urinals

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) wants to develop 1,000 kiosks, each comprising of four waterless urinals, in the city before the Commonwealth Games 2010.

The urine would be converted into hydrogen gas and water. While the water would be treated through reverse osmosis and used for industrial purpose, the hydrogen would be used to produce energy. The civic agency has roped in engineers from a US-based company to study the feasibility of this project.
