In order to meet the huge requirement of toilets, particularly in far-flung and lessdeveloped areas, MPs and MLAs are now looking for public-private-partnership under the CSR activities of private companies. The initiative has already been taken by New Delhi MP Meenakshi Lekhi in her constituency.
Many of the PSUs, including Coal India, BHEL, SAIL, ONGC and BSNL along with MNCs such as TCS, HCL, HUL, Dabur, ITC, Aditya Birla Group, Adani Group and Bharti, have already stepped in building toilets as part of their CSR activities. “We are now focusing on getting such facilities in semi-urban and farflung areas, slums and bastis where sanitation
is an issue. Also in Delhi Cantonment areas, among others,” Lekhi said to PTI.
Meenakshi has already adopted Old Pillanji Village in her constituency as part of Centre’s ‘Adarsh Gram Yojana’ and is keen to work with MNCs to improve the sanitary requirements in other areas too.
