After the installation of first solar panel at Ode railway station in Anand district, the Vadodara Railway Division plans to install solar panels to power its other 15 railway stations.
Naveen Kumar Shukla, Divisional Railway Manager said, “As part of the plan, the existing fittings at these sites will be hooked up to solar power systems but the division will still keep the conventional lines for emergency cases.India’s Railway budget for 2013-2014 has also envisaged the installation of as many as 75MW of wind turbines and the use of solar panels to power certain crossings. Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal announced that a railway energy management firm would be established to tap the wind and solar power potential.
