Indian Railways has recently introduced mechanised cleaning at some stations of Ratlam division. Ujjain, Dahod and Chittorgarh stations have already installed the machines to clean the premises. Tenders are now being floated for Ratlam.
In February this year Indore became the first station in Ratlam to have mechanized sanitation system. On a monthly contract of Rs7.4 lakh, around 94 people have been engaged for cleaning at Ujjain. In Dahod, a group of 49 workers will undertake the work of cleaning platforms and railway tracks. The machines to be deployed include litter pickers, manual flippers, jet pressure machines, battery operated and manual ride-on scrubbers. Three machines including two riders and one jet pressure machine are engaged in the work. Around 40 people are working on a monthly contract of Rs3.5 lakh. In Ratlam, a tender worth Rs3.25 crore has been floated for housekeeping service, mechanised cleaning services, garbage collection and removal, litter picking and street sweeping within the railway premises.
