Revised guidelines to improve FM in Hospitality

The Ministry of Culture & Tourism, India has revised the measures for effective solid & other waste management such as installing Sewage Treatment Plants in hotels. The new guidelines make it mandatory to maintain the water ingredient levels to the desired level for hotel approvals/classification/re-classification. The Ministry has classified various Hotels in various categories, namely One Star, Two Star, Three Star, Four Star, Five Star, Five Star Deluxe, Heritage Basic, Heritage Classic and Heritage Grand categories based on level of services & facilities available. Drop in services/facilities now might result in the drop of hotel ratings.

The new guidelines have been released to impress upon the stakeholders the need to upgrade the facility services in the hotel sector. These include:

• Non CFC equipment for refrigeration & air-conditioning measures

• Devices for energy and water conservation

• Measures for rainwater harvesting

• Measures for effective solid & other waste management e.g. installing the Sewage Treatment Plant

It has also launched a web based Public Service Delivery System (PSDS) enabling all the applicants seeking approval for hotel projects, classification/re-classification and related services to track the progress of their applications online on a real time basis.
