Sometimes piles of uncollected rubbish can be worth their weight in gold, as the family and friends of 26-year-old Vangelis Icapatos discovered when a reportedly unhappy Vangelis tried to take his own life by leaping from his ninth floor West Side apartment window. His life was saved when his fall was broken by a huge pile of rubbish since New York’s heavy post-Christmas blizzards prevented its removal.
