Safety first, and foremost

Kamlesh Prabhu, CoE – Quality and Transition, Technique Control Facility Management explains how safety is ingrained in his organisation’s DNA.

Safety is not just a priority; it’s an integral part of our core values. We undertake comprehensive measures to maintain the safety and well-being of our employees and the occupants of the facilities we manage. With certifications such as ISO 14001:2015 and 45001:2015 under our belt and our ongoing pursuit of the British Safety Council certification, TCFM’s commitment to safety is unwavering.

Identifying and mitigating risks is the foundation of a safe working environment. TCFM follows a robust risk assessment process (HIRA – Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment) to proactively identify potential hazards. By implementing corrective actions and adhering to industry-best practices, we ensure that risks are effectively minimised.

Safety training

A well-informed and trained workforce is essential for maintaining safety standards. We provide extensive safety training to our employees, equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to identify hazards and respond appropriately. Furthermore, we extend our commitment to safety by educating facility occupants about safety protocols and hazard identification.

Employee safety

The safety of our employees is paramount, particularly for those who work alone in potentially hazardous situations. TCFM ensures that every lone worker is supported through various measures, such as the provision of a buddy system and constant supervision. We prioritise a culture of safety that encourages everyone to adopt safe working practices, and recognise the value of learning from past experiences to continually improve safety measures.

We actively share lessons learned through one-pagers circulated across our entire network. This practice enables us to disseminate valuable insights and best practices, ensuring that safety remains at the forefront of our operations.

Employee well-being

This goes hand in hand with safety. We take proactive measures to promote the physical and mental well-being of our employees, ensuring a holistic approach to their welfare. For this, we have initiated various wellness programs.

Pre-employment medical checkups: To prioritise the health of our employees, a mandatory pre-employment medical checkup is conducted. This ensures that each individual is fit for their designated role, reducing the risk of health-related incidents.

Regular health checkups: We organise ESIC camps at client locations, providing regular health checkups to our on-ground staff. These periodic assessments enable early detection of any health concerns and facilitate timely interventions.

Social initiatives: We actively engage in social initiatives that promote employee well-being. For instance, TCFM organizes blood donation camps at our corporate office, encouraging our employees to contribute to a noble cause.

Mental health support: Recognising the importance of mental well-being, we offer counselling services through our internal HR team and collaborate with external consultants. These resources provide employees with professional guidance, ensuring that their mental well-being is addressed from both professional and personal perspectives.

Through rigorous risk management practices, comprehensive employee training, and a focus on well-being, we ensure a secure environment for our clients, occupants, employees, and the community at large.
