Scrap iron for cleaning wastewater

After five years research, a Chinese researcher has come up with a technology to clean and detoxify pollutants in industrial wastewater using scrap iron. Using zero valent iron (ZVI), the researcher pre-treated wastewater at a treatment plant in the Taopu Industrial District in Shanghai. The addition of ZVI to the traditional biological methods of wastewater treatment showed significant improvement in the pollutant levels.
