Sewage Treatment Plant for Vasai-Virar region

The satellite city of Mumbai, the Vasai-Virar region is all set to receive its first sewage treatment plant. Being built under a Central government sanctioned underground sewerage scheme, seven plants which would be built at a total cost of over 550 crores will treat waste water and household sewage.

Speaking to Clean India Journal Municipal Commissioner Kishor Borde said, “Plants will be built in two phases with two plants in the first phase; a 13mld plant in Chikaldongari and a 30mld plant in Bolinj.”

“The plans are awaiting nod from the planning committee. Plants should be operational in three to four years time once we have all the necessary clearances,” he added.
